New Artist – The Weeknd
The Weeknd is a relatively new artist in the PBR&B genre.
Wait… the what genre? PBR&B (a portmanteau of the popular hipster beer Pabst Blue Ribbon and R&B) is one of those buzz terms used to describe a stylized alternative to the more contemporary R&B; also known as Hipster R&B. Another notable new artist in this genre is Frank Ocean. Let’s continue…
So The Weeknd just released an album, “Trilogy”, which is a compilation of songs from his independently released mix-tapes and a few new songs.
I have listened through this album a couple times and i feel like his songs have potential to be great, especially once he has been polished and drops some of the more repetitive aspects. There is a fine line between catchy and whiny and unfortunately some of The Weeknd’s tracks cross the line. Over all though, the album is really easy to listen to and has great melodies. I think that if you are a fan of this obscure genre that you will be pleased.
Album of the Week: Blak and Blu by Gary Clark Jr.
In the age of auto tune and music sampling it is rare to find anything truly original… just as it is rare in a time of electro pop to find a modern blues album. Gary Clark Jr. has created a wonderful album that has a timeless sound and yet remains relevant to today. This is his first major label album and you can feel his roots through the polishing. Each track holds the truth of his style in the blues backbone and it is served to the masses with modern R&B and hip-hop trimmings. He is working with producers of big names like Dr. Dre, Prince, Green Day and Fiona Apple. Despite the professional help, this Austin native somehow manages to make the listener feel as though they are in a blues bar listening to an amazing garage band. See my review and listen to the full album after the jump. Read More…
New Music Video: Bruno Mars
This song has really grown on me as his new album Unorthodox Jukebox approaches. The video is not his usual throw him in a warehouse with some instruments video, though it is not a lyrical parallel either. I really enjoyed the effect and it made each scene feel like a memory that he will keep for years to come, yet empty because he has been Locked Out of Heaven. Such a fitting choice. This is his first single from the new album and I am sure we will hear more this weekend as he is both the host and musical guest on SNL. What do you think of the video? Will you be buying his new album on 12/11/12?
Green Day’s Official Trailer For ¡Uno!
It seems that everything now-a-days has a trailer, or a teaser for a trailer…

Most of us grew up with Green Day as one of our go to punk bands and it is always good news when they come out with a new album let alone a trilogy of albums.
“We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives… This is the best music we’ve ever written, and the songs just keep coming.
