The Return of DVR Weekly
So the fall season is getting underway. A few shows have already premiered. Others are being patiently and excitedly awaited. Before we get a true return of DVR Weekly, I wanted to let you know what I’m looking forward to this season and the changes planned for this season on the DVR.
Network Shows
Here’s a list of shows on network television that are going to take up a spot on my DVR with their spot on the schedule, channel, and a little bit about the show.
Once Upon a Time – Sundays at 8pm on ABC – Following season one, the curse is broken, but the fairy tale characters living in Storybrooke are in for plenty of surprises as a new spell seems to have been cast by Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold.
New Girl – Tuesdays at 9pm on FOX – Season two has already started with Jess losing her job and Schmidt hitting on Winston’s sister. This is just a fun quirky sitcom.
Arrow – Wednesdays at 8pm on The CW – A new series based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow. I hope it lives up to the hype.
Elementary – Thursdays at 10pm on CBS – The US reimagining of Sherlock Holmes in a modern day New York. After one episode, it shows potential, but misses the mark compared to BBC’s Sherlock.
Whitney – Fridays at 8pm on NBC – This is a personal favorite sitcom in its sophomore season. It is very relationship heavy, but I surprisingly relate to a lot of the comedy.
Community – Fridays at 8:30pm on NBC – The little comedy that could chugs along this season without its creator. Will it continue to maintain the funny? I hope so. It still needs two more seasons and a movie. Where’s my felt evil beard?
Cable Shows
Since cable networks don’t follow the same season format as network channels, I’ll list the shows that are have started their seasons or will have seasons starting soon.
DC Nation Block – Saturdays with Green Lantern at 10am and Young Justice at 10:30am on Cartoon Network – Two phenomenal animated series that do an amazing job adapting the source material in interesting and different ways. And you get some great shorts in between.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Saturdays at 11am on Nickelodeon – A reboot of the classic franchise that essentially returns the turtles to their roots. The premiere left me incredibly nostalgic in the best possible way. They even remixed the 80s theme song!
The League – Premieres October 11 on FX – In season 4 we find out the after effects of 2011’s null season. This show is an amazing example of a sitcom that does not rely solely on its concept. Yes, it has fantasy football in it, but the series is about a bunch of friends and the antics of their lives.
The Walking Dead – Premieres October 14 on AMC – Teases for season 3 promise the adaptation of one of the most iconic periods in the comic book’s nearly decade long run. The debut of characters like Michonne and the Governor should make fans of the comics happy, and the return of a character should have TV-only fans talking.
Changes to DVR Weekly
Previously on DVR Weekly, I would do both recap and review the shows I’ve been watching. I’m going to organize things and prepare people to be able to watch the shows. So here’s how DVR Weekly will be formatted:
- 3 Favorite shows for the week which I’ll do small recaps
- 2 Honorable Mentions for the week
- 5 Shows to look out for the next week.
DVR Weekly will be on Mondays and will cover Sunday-Saturday of the previous week.
Look for a brand new (off-schedule) DVR Weekly soon for the week of 9/23-9/29
