GTA V Keeps Getting Better

As if the upcoming GTA V didn’t already look downright amazing, the first official gameplay trailer shows just how amazing it actually will be. Check it out below as well as some of my thoughts.

First off, I’ve been curious how the three protagonists were going to be integrated into a single game. Would it be broken up into separate stories you jump in and out of at specific points in the game. Well, my answer is here. You can swap between characters at what appears to be any moment. It looks lie this will be performed using the d-pad. This looks very promising and can provide some interesting gameplay.

New activities to distract! Customizable cars, diving, sports, hunting, and planes!

A weapon wheel is a huge improvement to the old weapons system. I can only assume assets from Red Dead Redemption were used to integrate this into GTA. The hunting and bounties were probably also carried over.

Planning crimes looks very interesting. I really want to see how deep the decision-making actually is in these things. Adds a huge element of strategy in what used to be run-n-gun missions. I’m also curious how the rewards/investment system will work. Yeah, there’s the obvious clothes, tattoos, gear, and cars, but stocks and real estate? Will there be a chance for these investments to fail? It’d be a nice risk/reward scenario.

But after all of that, the tease of multiplayer (which has been big this year) looks absolutely amazing. Hopefully, free roam returns with all the improvements that can come from previous experiences.

Six New Titles From Vertigo in the Fall

sndm_promo_highresAs Neil Gaiman’s Sandman helped usher in the new line of comics as it transitioned from DC Comics proper to their Vertigo line, Morpheus will help usher in a new renaissance at Vertigo. The New York Times has revealed that Neil Gaiman’s Sandman prequel, now titled Sandman: Overture, will begin October 30. But that’s not all. Also on the schedule are six other titles including another Gaiman-inspired book. What are they? Let’s take a look.

October

Hinterkind – This comic takes place in “a post-apocalyptic world in which the creatures of myth and legend have returned” written by Ian Edginton (2000AD) and art by Francesco Trifogli.

HINT_Cv1The Witching Hour – An anthology one-shot featuring short stories exploring witchcraft by the talents of Kelly Sue DeConnick, Cliff Chiang, Matthew Sturges, and more.

Coffin Hill – A dark fantasy about a mysterious force left buried since the Salem Witch Trials combining the fantasy author Caitlin Kittredge and artist Inaki Miranda.

November

The Dead Boy Detectives – Edwin and Charles, ghost detectives originating from Sandman #25, will have a new series handled by Toby Litt. Fables‘ Mark Buckingham will also provide layouts and painted covers.

December

The Discipline – Fellow Vertigo debut author Peter Milligan tells the story of a woman amidst a shadow war. It is also described as an “erotic thriller” (kinky!). Leo Fernandez will be on art duty.

Suiciders – Lee Bermejo tries his hand as both writer and artist in a tale of two boxers on opposite ends of the spectrum in a futuristic Los Angeles.

Everybody Knows… That Danny Trejo is the man!

Danny Trejo has such an amazing look to him that it makes sense that he would have a voice just as amazing. Enjoy the new music video for Dustin Tavella’s everybody knows.

The song is not more than an anthem for scorned teen girls, but the elements are fun. Danny Trejo’s lipsyncing is great and there are a few cameos from Marielle Jaffe, Francia Raisa, Charity Baroni, Fingazz, Baby Bash, Sammy Droke, Kim Crossman and probably the most recognizable Selena Gomez.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane: A Book Review

On the surface, the ocean is light and illuminates life just beneath. However, when you dive deeper, the beams of light begin to narrow and you are left amidst the shadows and the creatures that hunt in the uncertainty. The Ocean at the End of the Lane lies just between. You feel as though you are treading between the last rays of light above you, but wanting to know what lies beneath your toes.

The story begins in the light, an artist returns to his hometown for a funeral. He wanders to a farm where his childhood friend Lettie Hempstock lived with her mother, Ginnie, and her grandmother old Mrs. Hempstock. He vaguely remembers the duck pond towards the back of the property and as he approaches it he begins to remember much much more. He is overwhelmed with long forgotten memories of supernatural beings and truths that pre-date the moon hanging in our sky.

No spoilers…. I promise!

Robert Downey JR. Signs on For More Iron Man

Hmmm…. Looks like we will have Robert Downey Jr. back for Avengers 2 and 3.

Weeks ago Joss Whedon said, “I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. … But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can.”

Now it is official (Marvel confirmed) and we have RDJ for two more movies. I guess when you make 1.5 billion from the first movie it is pretty good incentive to make those fans happy with the next two movies.

Avengers 2 is slotted for May 2015.
