CYaN Podcast Episode 131: Episode Fatigue
Welcome to November and a brand new episode of the Call Yourself A Nerd Podcast. We had a whole list of things to talk about, but in actuality this episode is primarily all about the Marvel Studios announcements.
CYaN Podcast Episode 130: Piece of Duty
It’s the weekend before Halloween and we have a new episode of the Call Yourself A Nerd Podcast. This week; Danny and Ricky talk about the new Age of Ultron trailer, some comic and TV news, and the upcoming holiday games.
CYaN Podcast Episode 124: Delusional Danny
Apologies for lack of an episode of last week; to make up for it we have an excellent episode (as if they’re not all excellent) where we talk about movies and shows based on DC Comics, Destiny, and a lot of other nonsense pulled from our rears.
End Credits – Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain American: The Winter Soldier releases worldwide today. It is an excellently thought-out and fun film, we’ll have a review for you later. But in the meantime, here’s a little history lesson explaining the end credits scene.
It should go without saying, but SPOILERS for the end credits scene. I won’t spoil the movie, but if you want to know more then bash your way past the jump.
Do Toys and Batman Ruin Female Super Hero Movies?
A little while back, I had a conversation with some friends about comic book movies. It stemmed from Iron Man airing on TV; which led to someone mentioning how much they disliked Pepper’s portrayal in Iron Man 3 as the “damsel in distress” until the climax of the film. They argued that the movie fails to optimize her character in lieu of a trope, but let’s put aside the fact that Pepper has almost always been an ancillary character.
The conversation then moved on to “Why are there no comic book movies featuring a female heroes?”
Where am I going with this? Well, with recent news that Katee Sackhoff may play a major role in an upcoming Marvel Studios film (which is hopefully as Captain Marvel); I thought I would give my thoughts as why there have been no successful comic book movies featuring a female hero and how the sales of toys and success of Batman hinders a movie coming out.
Fly past the jump to read what I have to say. [Warning: I’m going to be wordy.]
CYaN Podcast Episode 61: Nerd Emotion
Time for another episode of the Call Yourself A Nerd Podcast; but this time without it being a special episode. We’re back talking about the weekly nerdy news including RDJ and his role as Tony Stark, the announcements of new comics and the end of a mini-series, not to mention a couple of movies that came out over the weekend.
Robert Downey JR. Signs on For More Iron Man
Hmmm…. Looks like we will have Robert Downey Jr. back for Avengers 2 and 3.
Weeks ago Joss Whedon said, “I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. … But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can.”
Now it is official (Marvel confirmed) and we have RDJ for two more movies. I guess when you make 1.5 billion from the first movie it is pretty good incentive to make those fans happy with the next two movies.
Avengers 2 is slotted for May 2015.
