Justin Timberlake The 20/20 Experience Volume 1.

Overall, the album is easy to listen to. Justin has this smooth voice that can transport you to the crooners of yesteryear and yet he has these beats that keep you grounded to the here and now. Suit and Tie is easily one of the best singles on the radio right now. His second single, Mirrors, is also breaking up the monotony of back to back Rihanna songs on every station.

Justin has this sound that is different than what most artist are doing in Pop music right now, but his core song inspirations have remained true to the persona he has created for himself though his solo career. Each song is meant to woo this beautiful young thing that has the potential to be his one true love. Each song pounds this message into your head and I am sure that it will be a hit, but perhaps I expect more. Read More…

Robots exact Revenge

It is rare for this music-nerd to find a music video that just sells her on a band. This is a video from a local SF rock band, King loses Crown. Their song is My Revenge and its video is pretty damn cool. I should probably set it up by saying this song is basically a man saying, “if I can’t have you no one else can.” So they take that message and use robots to exact their revenge throughout the city of San Francisco.

I was trying to find a place to download the song  and stumbled upon their SoundCloud, where you can listen to their songs for free. Album out 02.19.13 Click for the songs. Read More…

New Artist – The Weeknd

The Weeknd is a relatively new artist in the PBR&B genre.

Wait… the what genre? PBR&B (a portmanteau of the popular hipster beer Pabst Blue Ribbon and R&B) is one of those buzz terms used to describe a stylized alternative to the more contemporary R&B; also known as Hipster R&B. Another notable new artist in this genre is Frank Ocean. Let’s continue…

So The Weeknd just released an album, “Trilogy”,  which is a compilation of songs from his independently released mix-tapes and a few new songs.
I have listened through this album a couple times and i feel like his songs have potential to be great, especially once he has been polished and drops some of the more repetitive aspects. There is a fine line between catchy and whiny and unfortunately some of The Weeknd’s tracks cross the line. Over all though, the album is really easy to listen to and has great melodies. I think that if you are a fan of this obscure genre that you will be pleased.

No Doubt’s New Album news!

No Doubt (Gwen Stefani, Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal, and Adrian Young,) is back. They have begun promotion for the new album Push and Shove by releasing a teaser for their new music video to accompany their first single: Settle Down.

For No Doubt fans this is extremely exciting news. They have been on a long hiatus (mainly for baby making) and fans are more than ready for their return. No doubt has found a way to keep their Ska roots and evolve with their fans as well as garner the next generation. Gwen Stefani is the front woman for this group and probably the most notable among them. She has had successful solo albums during this hiatus and is no doubt bringing her ‘A’ game for this album.

When confronted about delays Gwen explains that she and her bandmates have a system for working out this album:

“We do this thing where we work on it really hard, and then we take breaks, because everybody has so much going on,” she said. “That’s why it’s taking so long.

“Everybody asks, ‘Why is it taking so long?’ Because I have kids,” Gwen continued, with a laugh. “I’m a mom! I have school, I have homework. It’s a lot.”

Enjoy this teaser and hopefully we’ll have more to post before the September 25th 2012 Album release!

Muse – Survival

I heard this song on the radio yesterday and for some reason Shazaam was totally useless. Then I came across this link that provided me with the name and huge news for a favorite band of mine… MUSE. This song has been chosen to be the official song for the 2012 Olmpics in London. Muse has truely outdone themselves this time, this rock-opera-queen-esque sound is perfect for olympians and us mere mortals alike. Have a listen….
