Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 2 Recap: Madrigal

The episode opens in Germany during a taste test with a big wig. He tries their new dipping sauces and you are waiting for him to do something sinister. His admin comes in and explains that they are back and this time there are 3 of them. He finishes his taste test and then heads to a conference room, where we see police officers waiting. Instead of greeting them he calmly takes the defibrillator from the wall and heads to the rest room. With a grace that is Gus-worthy he removes his coat and shirts before electrocuting himself to death. What is it with these crime bosses and worrying about their clothes in life or death situations? Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 1 Recap: Live free or Die

Holy Freakin’ Magnets Batman! I think that this is definitely the right way to kick off a new season of Breaking Bad. Walt is no longer the naive chemistry teacher he had been when we began this crazy journey.  If you have not been watching this series maybe this premise will entice you to catch up, quickly!

The main character is Mr. Walter White (Bryan Cranston) a high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with an advanced stage of lung cancer. His mounting hospital costs and impending demise lead him to change careers. He drops general chemistry for the more lucrative career of methamphetamine production. Since he has a well rounded understanding of chemistry he makes a superior strain and with the help of his street smart assistant Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) becomes a major player in the drug scene.

Walking Dead Season 3 Trailer

Coming off reading the landmark issue #100 of the comic, this trailer made me want to go back to the good old days. So many small moments int his trailer that tease classic events of the comic, but plenty of it feels different and refreshing. Take a look here. Be warned, there may be spoilers to some events.

The most ominous aspect of this season is the tagline.

Fight the dead. Fear the living.

Season 3 is coming October 14th.

DVR Weekly: Sherlock Special

PBS’s airing of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s Sherlock. Three episodes over three weeks and now it has come and gone. So let’s talk about them shall we?

Keep in mind there will be spoilers.

Just to frame this a little: I did decide to wait for the PBS airing of the episodes rather than just torrenting the episodes, so a lot of this information has been floating around since January when it originally aired on BBC. While I am a fan of the character of Sherlock Holmes, my only experience of the original Arthur Conan Doyle writings are from teleplay adaptations on PBS and Guy Richie’s 2009 adaptation. Hit the jump to start reading about this series’ episodes.

Sorry about the lateness of this post. The Sherlock special post will be coming up this weekend.

Community – Eps. 3.20-22 “Digital Estate Planning”, “The First Chang Dynasty”, “Introduction to Finality”

These were some amazing episodes. An 8-bit episode where we get “Troy and Abed spitting lava!” “The First Chang Dynasty” rounds out the over-arcing story of Chang’s takeover. It was a great homage to Heist movies specifically Ocean’s Eleven. And finally “Introduction to Finality” wraps up the season nicely. We get some resolution on the Evil Abed thread and Troy’s destiny in the Air Conditioning School. This episode definitely had an interesting sense of “finality”. On one hand, the question of cancellation loomed over head while writing this episode, but on the other, the fact that Dan Harmon will be leaving raises the question of how well the show can do without him.

Young Justice – Ep. 2.04 “Salvage”

In this episode, we find out where the other three missing members from five years ago have gone. Wally/Kid Flash has retired to settle down with Artemis. I thought it interesting that Wally is benched at a time that he is missing in the DCnU. We also found out that Roy is on the hunt for the original Speedy. There is an intervention of sorts featuring Wally, Dick, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and the Guardian. The parallels between Roy’s unwavering focus and Speedy’s drug addiction in the comics are apparent, but very well done. We also learn that Cheshire and Roy have had Lian. If this show doesn’t make you nostalgic for the old DCU, you haven’t been reading comics long.

Short list this week so I can focus on Sherlock.

I’ll see you all next week… same DVR channel… same DVR time…
