CYaN Podcast Episode 21: Brought To You By The Number 8
Welcome to another episode of the CYaN podcast. Danny and Ricky really talk a lot this episode. We go into some new Marvel NOW! announcements, a few new movie trailers, and the big news of the week: the Wii U. Hope you enjoy the show.
Avengers Phase One Blu-Ray Update
So as you may remember from the podcast, I was extremely excited and had preordered the Phase One Blu-Ray collection. Rimowa GmbH sued Disney and Marvel Studios due to similarities between one of their models and the replica of Fury’s briefcase. Up to this point Amazon had simply changed the Blu-Ray collection status to under review and stopped taking preorders. Well, people who preordered the Blu-Ray have now been updated.
We’re writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.
To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel’s The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) . To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012.
Basically, Amazon is offering a free copy of The Avengers to ensure that customers receive something on the release date. I’m a little hesitant to jump at this now until we get a confirmation on what the new version will be and a solid date.
Album of the Week: Night Visions by Imagine Dragons

This is a band that I took a chance on and it paid off. I had heard “In Time” on the radio over the past week and Danny has been enjoying “Radioactive” which is the second single from this indie-rock band’s debut album Night Visions. I have been listening pretty much non stop to the album this week and reached an overload when “In Time” was covered on last night’s episode of Glee. So perhaps that song will be receiving the Gotye treatment… Let’s not think of that at the moment. Read More…
Deadpool Dancing
If you’ve found your way over to our new YouTube page (youtube.com/callyourselfanerd), you’ll have seen Danny’s GrifballHub buddies joined by the Merc with a Mouth while checking out Dance Central 3. If you haven’t, go check it out! You also can check out a video of zombie dancing and a Vegemite challenge.
But that’s not why I’m posting today. I’m posting because since posting the PSY’s “Gangnam Style” mash-up with Nicki Minaj’s “Starships”, I have managed to get my girlfriend to fall in love with the song and PSY’s amazing dance moves. She is even sharing the video with coworkers. Well, now prepare to be amazed. Deadpool is out there doing it Gangnam style with a Gundam… and Bane.
Thank you critique4geeks for a hilarious video.
Wii U Details Annouced
Arriving two days after the sixth birthday of the original Wii; Nintendo is releasing their next console, called the Wii U. If you have been living under a rock, then the Wii U features HD gaming and a touch screen controller to go along with the console. Sounds like a bit of a gimmick? Well so does most of the other Nintendo products. But after spending a little bit of time with the controller at PAX, I can say that it can lead to some very interesting projects. Either way, Nintendo has released the product information and “four-month” launch line-up.
Let’s get down to the nitty gritty, shall we?
Aftermath PAX ’12
Good afternoon, internet.
I will be forgoing Cheap Date this week, as there is really nothing I would recommend; in fact I would recommend saving your money this week in anticipation of a release next week.
Any way, today I will leave you with some videos and photos from PAX Prime. Also we now have a YouTube Channel for our videos and such.
Enjoy!
CYaN Podcast Episode 20: The One with PAX
Good afternoon, internet. We have another CYaN podcast for you, with hosts Danny and Ricky. While we talk about a few other things including the upcoming season of Star Wars: the Clone Wars; we mostly talk about conventions this week especially PAX. Enjoy!
Feel Good Friday Playlist
Oh my god! I know it is cheesy to say outside of an office environment, but T-G-I-F! This week has pretty much sucked and I have decided that I will not let the little things bring down my Friday. I have kept my head down and busied myself with tedious paper pushing and somehow willed the weekend to arrive.
So as a necessary therapeutic measure, and in celebration, I made a Feel Good Friday Playlist. These playlists have my favorite feel good songs and I hope you check them out and boost your mood.
As with my Flashback Friday Playlist a few weeks back, this playlist comes in two flavors. On your left we have the old school feel and on your right we have the new school feel. Enjoy!

Cheap Date: September 5th
I am still recovering from PAX, but the show must go on. So welcome to Cheap Date, where I will recommend how you should spend no more than $30 on nerdy things for this week. I will pick out comics, movies, games, and merch that you should at least take a look at from the week’s selection.

CYaN Podcast Episode 19: Fall Video Game Special
Good morning, world. This one is coming to you a little late especially since I’m still a little burnt out/drunk from PAX, but this was recorded last week. Ricky and me talk about all the new video games coming out this Fall, although some of that information may be outdated due to PAX. Hope you still enjoy listening to it.
