There are 3 major clues to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thor sequel, hammer past the jump to find more about these clues.
This will be my only warning of SPOILERS for the mid-credit scenes from Thor: The Dark World. So if you have yet to watch the movie, maybe hold off from reading this article.
Do Toys and Batman Ruin Female Super Hero Movies?
A little while back, I had a conversation with some friends about comic book movies. It stemmed from Iron Man airing on TV; which led to someone mentioning how much they disliked Pepper’s portrayal in Iron Man 3 as the “damsel in distress” until the climax of the film. They argued that the movie fails to optimize her character in lieu of a trope, but let’s put aside the fact that Pepper has almost always been an ancillary character.
The conversation then moved on to “Why are there no comic book movies featuring a female heroes?”
Where am I going with this? Well, with recent news that Katee Sackhoff may play a major role in an upcoming Marvel Studios film (which is hopefully as Captain Marvel); I thought I would give my thoughts as why there have been no successful comic book movies featuring a female hero and how the sales of toys and success of Batman hinders a movie coming out.

Six New Titles From Vertigo in the Fall
As Neil Gaiman’s Sandman helped usher in the new line of comics as it transitioned from DC Comics proper to their Vertigo line, Morpheus will help usher in a new renaissance at Vertigo. The New York Times has revealed that Neil Gaiman’s Sandman prequel, now titled Sandman: Overture, will begin October 30. But that’s not all. Also on the schedule are six other titles including another Gaiman-inspired book. What are they? Let’s take a look.
October
Hinterkind – This comic takes place in “a post-apocalyptic world in which the creatures of myth and legend have returned” written by Ian Edginton (2000AD) and art by Francesco Trifogli.
The Witching Hour – An anthology one-shot featuring short stories exploring witchcraft by the talents of Kelly Sue DeConnick, Cliff Chiang, Matthew Sturges, and more.
Coffin Hill – A dark fantasy about a mysterious force left buried since the Salem Witch Trials combining the fantasy author Caitlin Kittredge and artist Inaki Miranda.
November
The Dead Boy Detectives – Edwin and Charles, ghost detectives originating from Sandman #25, will have a new series handled by Toby Litt. Fables‘ Mark Buckingham will also provide layouts and painted covers.
December
The Discipline – Fellow Vertigo debut author Peter Milligan tells the story of a woman amidst a shadow war. It is also described as an “erotic thriller” (kinky!). Leo Fernandez will be on art duty.
Suiciders – Lee Bermejo tries his hand as both writer and artist in a tale of two boxers on opposite ends of the spectrum in a futuristic Los Angeles.

Robert Downey JR. Signs on For More Iron Man

Hmmm…. Looks like we will have Robert Downey Jr. back for Avengers 2 and 3.
Weeks ago Joss Whedon said, “I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. … But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can.”
Now it is official (Marvel confirmed) and we have RDJ for two more movies. I guess when you make 1.5 billion from the first movie it is pretty good incentive to make those fans happy with the next two movies.
Avengers 2 is slotted for May 2015.
Ka-Pow 101: Aldrich Killian and AIM
Iron Man 3 comes out this week and I wanted to share a little comic book background for a couple of things. If you saw my Phase One unboxing, you probably caught a glimpse of a fun little piece of memorabilia: an AIM business card of CEO Aldrich Killian. Check it out:
So today’s Ka-Pow 101 will address who is Aldrich Killian and what is AIM. Hit the jump to learn more, but keep in mind: any information from the comics may be unintentional spoilers for Iron Man 3.

Reach Out And Touch Faith
Religion and Science find a rebellious foothold in this 6 issue series about the second coming of Jesus Christ. Sean Murphy is the writer and artist of this brilliant story of a media saturated society and how they shaped Jesus’ second coming. Jesus is brought back as a clone named Chris Fairling. This child is born to a virgin on international television and raised in front of thousands of cameras; Truman Show style. The series follows Chris’ struggles to be who his genes destine him to be. Along for the ride is a tough as titanium head of security, former I.R.A. member, Thomas “The Cemetery” McKael. On the surface the story begs the question of who Jesus would be in our current world. How would the rebellious spirit manifest itself in this day and age? Punk Rock, duh!

Censorship in Comics Continues
There is only one subject that I encroach upon being preachy and that topic is censorship. Censorship primarily in comic books, especially since that is my preferred medium. Today we learned of a brand new case of censorship in which Apple has banned the release of Saga #12, which releases tomorrow, from all apps on any Apple device (although there are workarounds).

Who Is The Next Robin?
Alright, enough time should have passed that this is not a spoiler but two weeks ago in Batman Incorporated #8 a Robin died. Now comes the speculation on who will fill the green shoes of Batman’s sidekick and we’ve been given an idea of who it might be.

Gaiman Returns to Marvel with Angela
Neil Gaiman is returning to writing for Marvel Comics after an extended period away from the industry. What has the world in a titter is the fact that Gaiman is bringing along a character that has never appeared in a Marvel comic but was a main character for another company’s main series.
In case you can not see the big picture, hit the jump to see who it is.
