I. Crawl – Childish Gambino

I. Crawl – Childish Gambino

I have been listening to Childish Gambino‘s new album for the last week (on&off). I am surprised that Crawl is not his first single, it has a great beat and energy to it, but his first and second singles 3005 and Sweatpants are also fine choices.

The artist looks familiar you say? Well, many may already know him for his comedic side as he is best known as the actor Donald Glover. Still no bells? He plays Troy on Community! While watching his performance on Jimmy Kimmel I was fascinated by how different he was on stage. He still has that presence that keeps you watching him, but his demeanor is more focused and you can feel his passion for the music.

If you read my music posts, you know by now that I am addicted to words and the referential lyrics in this track really tickle me.

And I’m only looking back if I’m looking at her booty

Hump Day!

“Do you know what day it is?” What what!

Yeah, it’s a hump day remix…. that is all the explanation you need right?

Timber – Pitbull feat. Ke$ha

hahahaha, I am so tickled by this song. I just find it hilarious. It is a catchy tune and Ke$ha brings her own brand of dance talk rap to the track making this a perfect Tuesday-ramp-up-for-the-week song.

No Seriously, the chorus is “It’s going down, I’m yelling timber / You better move, you better dance…” Everyone in the video is dressed in slutty-country-couture, well not Pitbull, but he does square dance on a white sand beach. “Swing your partner round and round / End of the night, it’s going down” I think that counts? Its only Tuesday, we all need a good laugh. Oh, and no, I do not apologize for getting this song stuck in your head. If I must suffer then I am taking you down with me.

Bastille – Pompeii

It’s Monday… “How am I gonna be an optimist about this?”, but I have a nice energy boost to get us through this. Sip your coffee and take a quick break to watch a video and psych yourself up to dealing what this crazy week shall bring.

This guy is suffering some sort of insomnia-tic episode and he wanders the streets in the wee hours to discover that everyone around him has undergone a change where their eyes are blacked out. He fights this change, but does he eventually succumb? Watch and find out.

That Voice: and the women it belongs to … a playlist.

Sing It, Girl!A distinct voice is hard to come by and lately I have been trying to put together a playlist that showcases the deeper side of a woman’s voice. I keep searching for that voice, the one that will just make me stop what I am doing and listen.

After searching the deep corners of my library and using my shazam app at every turn, I have created an amazing playlist. Ahem, if I do say so myself. (shines nails on shirtfront)

Amy Winehouse was such an amazing talent and her voice helped so many women showcase their sound. There will always be a place for the Whitney’s and the Mariah’s on the airwaves, but once in a while I am looking for something different and it is such a shame when you have to travel to the oldies section to get it. See Something Cool: Landfill Harmonic

My jaw dropped the moment I heard the first little bit of music. Cool might not even capture all you need to think of this.

The Landfill Harmonic is a group of children from a Paraguayan slum who play instruments made from recycled materials. This video is a trailer for the documentary which was kickstarted recently.

Everybody Knows… That Danny Trejo is the man!

Danny Trejo has such an amazing look to him that it makes sense that he would have a voice just as amazing. Enjoy the new music video for Dustin Tavella’s everybody knows.

The song is not more than an anthem for scorned teen girls, but the elements are fun. Danny Trejo’s lipsyncing is great and there are a few cameos from Marielle Jaffe, Francia Raisa, Charity Baroni, Fingazz, Baby Bash, Sammy Droke, Kim Crossman and probably the most recognizable Selena Gomez.

Crowd Funding: An Explanation and An Opinion

Hello Nerdy Friends!

I just wanted to drop some knowledge and  share a video that I enjoyed. If you listen to our podcast you hear the guys talking about Kickstarter quite a bit. I keep reading about these discussions all over the net, is Kickstarter being exploited by celebrities? Is Kickstarter moving away from their original platform? Are people taking advantage of it?

Kickstarter is one of the sites that is using crowd funding for community projects. Crowd funding is basically a way for people to pool their funds and support efforts by other people. This can be funding for artists, small businesses, disaster relief, inventions, research, and civic projects.

Record Store Day!

Its time to support our local independently owned record store while also obtaining rare goodies for ourselves. Its Record Store Day!!

The music-community celebrates this day on the third Saturday of April each year since its inception in 2008. So that would make it April 20, 2013 coincidentally the other holiday the music community celebrates. Each year participating record stores have exclusive albums available from different artists.

This year the official ambassador is Jack White of the White Stripes and for some lucky shoppers a copy of Elephant is being released on a vinyl w/ black and red stripes on one side and white on the flip side. In the past other artists have released 7” vinyls usually capping out at 1000 copies.

It is a great way to create business for these places that bring fans together and help us discover new music. Visit the official website for more info and to find a participating store in your area.
