California Passes Driverless Cars Bill

Remember those scenes in Minority Report and I, Robot that allowed the main characters to get around in automatic cars? Well, we are moving closer to that future. While if you are familiar with Highway 101 in the Bay Area, you may have already noticed Google’s vehicles rolling around with a driver behind the wheel only as a safety feature. Now we will be able to see them more often and more around California. Nevada already has a similar law in place, with other states following suit. Either way, this is a step in automated vehicles that may prevent human error (aka that asshole that cut you off without using a turn signal).

This law allows anyone to work on a driver-less vehicle, but this is obviously a Google victory as California Governor Jerry Brown went to Google’s Mountain View offices to sign the bill with Google co-founder Sergey Brin overseeing the event with his Google Glass.

He may look dorky, but I admire a man who is that dedicated to his field and proud of the work that comes our. I will be looking forward to what develops from this.

New Music: Ladies of Hump Day

Bringing you hump day treats with two new singles from ladies who know how to top the music charts: Rihanna and Ke$ha.

Rihanna new single – Diamonds  ( Click to listen)

Well this barbados beauty is really working hard. This is her newest single from what will be her seventh album in eight years. Diamonds is a song we probably will be hearing on the radio non stop for the next couple weeks, and not because it is good, but because it is Rihanna. I have only listened through once, but I feel like it is missing something. The lyrics are unimaginative and full of cliche similies and the beat is kind of a let down. I am sure that after a few more listens it will grow on me, but there are only so many ways we are like diamonds… Read More…

Retro Review: The Princess Bride

Twenty-five years ago today, a wonderful movie came to theaters that audiences fell in love with. I am talking about The Princess Bride. With today being the classic’s birthday, I thought I would write a retro-review of the movie especially for any of you unlucky enough to not know about this movie.

Revolution Season 1 Recap Episode 2: “Chained Heat”

Second episode of a brand new series; this is where shows usually make it or break it. I have not placed this show into the category of loving it, yet. It still has potential but I need to see more.

Again, it should go without saying but beware SPOILERS for episode two of Revolution, “Chained Heat”…

Billie Joe Armstrong – Basketcase?

So Uno! is just around the corner and it has many people quite excited. Well, i guess not if you work the set schedule for iHeartRadio. Billie went absolutely Rock Star Diva when his set was cut short due to scheduling overlap. He went on a rant about how he has been here since 1988 ,”I’m not fucking Justin Beiber you motherfuckers!” and continues on for the minute they were allotted. (I enjoyed every nano-second of this rant!)

As a long time Green Day fan I know just how much this band loves their set times. Early 2000s during the Pop Disaster tour they were co-headlining with Blink 182 and Billie did all he could to make sure they extended their set each show. Admittedly I was at those shows to see Blink182 and was a bit frustrated that they were deliberately going over their set time, but hey that’s rock and roll right? This band plays with the crowd and Billy is an all around showman. So when Usher’s set ran over you can imagine how pissed Billy was to find that their set had been cut. You can’t? Well watch this video. Oh and bravo to Gibson, it took 5 swings to decapitate one of their guitars. Can you say craftsmanship?

Cheap Date: Sept 19th (Late Edition)

Wow, I’m late on this one. You can blame me for getting sucked into Pandora and being a vault hunter.

Usually on Cheap Date, I offer a few suggestion for nerd entertainment that will cost you $30. But last week, instead of Cheap Date, I posted about PAX and told everyone to save their money for this week. So this week I will give you two options; A will be for those that saved from last week and B for those that only have the $30. Enjoy!

Revolution Season 1 Recap Episode 1: “Pilot”

When I heard there was a show Eric Kripke developed, Bad Robot and J.J. Abrams produced, and Jon Favreau would direct the pilot; I was immediately just excited because of the creative force behind it. The post-apocalyptic world where no electronics worked also had me hooked.

So when the show premiered last night, I caught it and thought I would share a recap of the show with what I thought. Hopefully I will enjoy this new series throughout the first season at least, because lord knows I need a good new series.

It should go without saying, but just in case here is a warning. Spoilers for the first episode of Revolution after the jump…
