Cheap Date: Oct 10th
Another week and another new edition of Cheap Date has arrived! In case you are unfamiliar with this weekly article, I will recommend an allotment of nerdy entertainment that I think you should definitely check out this week and altogether it costs no more than thirty bucks. Because we all know how expensive being a nerd can be.
Head on past the jump to read my recommendations.
CYaN Podcast Episode 24: I’m More Right Because I Talk Louder
Hola, world! Here comes another episode of the Call Yourself A Nerd Podcast right to your eardrums. This week Danny and Ricky talk about all the movie trailers we have been seeing with the bunch of movies that we say this past week, more Halo 4 videos, Once Upon A Time, and the latest Fables story arc. I hope you all enjoy this one.
Villains finally get their Happily Ever After
I was surfing the interweb today and I came across some Alternate Disney Art. Whenever I read a book or watch a movie I find myself judging the story by its villain. I am a huge Disney fan because they filled my childhood with villainous delights. I always wondered how these fairy tales would be changed if my favorite dastardly characters had been triumphant and apparently Deviant Art artist Justin Mc Twisp heard my musings and drew up some awesome artwork. Enjoy! Click for more images.
The Croods Trailer and A Very Dark Lilo and Stitch
Chris Sanders, director of Lilo and Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, has a new movie set to come out early next year called the Croods. Check out the trailer.
Here’s a couple deleted scenes from Lilo and Stitch that show Lilo’s interaction with tourists and the fate of everyone’s favorite peanut butter-eating fish.
CYaN Podcast Episode 23: I Promise It’ll Get Bigger

Retro Review: The Princess Bride
Twenty-five years ago today, a wonderful movie came to theaters that audiences fell in love with. I am talking about The Princess Bride. With today being the classic’s birthday, I thought I would write a retro-review of the movie especially for any of you unlucky enough to not know about this movie.

CYaN Podcast Episode 22: Tolkien Danger Cult
We have a fun episode of the Call Yourself A Nerd Podcast for you today. Your hosts, Danny and Ricky, start off with an interesting side story that develops into a debate about what it means to be “cult.” Then we go on to a bit of the new trailers and news; not to mention we tell you what we think about what we thought about Dredd, Borderlands 2, and Revolution.
Cheap Date: Sept 19th (Late Edition)
Wow, I’m late on this one. You can blame me for getting sucked into Pandora and being a vault hunter.
Usually on Cheap Date, I offer a few suggestion for nerd entertainment that will cost you $30. But last week, instead of Cheap Date, I posted about PAX and told everyone to save their money for this week. So this week I will give you two options; A will be for those that saved from last week and B for those that only have the $30. Enjoy!
Avengers Phase One Blu-Ray Update
So as you may remember from the podcast, I was extremely excited and had preordered the Phase One Blu-Ray collection. Rimowa GmbH sued Disney and Marvel Studios due to similarities between one of their models and the replica of Fury’s briefcase. Up to this point Amazon had simply changed the Blu-Ray collection status to under review and stopped taking preorders. Well, people who preordered the Blu-Ray have now been updated.
We’re writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.
To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel’s The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) . To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012.
Basically, Amazon is offering a free copy of The Avengers to ensure that customers receive something on the release date. I’m a little hesitant to jump at this now until we get a confirmation on what the new version will be and a solid date.
